The Judicial Infrastructure Advisory Committee constituted by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant submitted its interim report on August 31, outlining a roadmap to address infrastructure gaps and modernise courts across the country.
The committee was constituted on May 12, 2026, under the chairmanship of Supreme Court Justice Aravind Kumar. Its members include Calcutta High Court Justice Debangsu Basak, Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Bombay High Court Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan.
Satinder Pal Singh, Director General of the Central Public Works Department, and Supreme Court Secretary General Bharat Parashar, who serves as Member Secretary, are also part of the panel.
The committee examined infrastructure deficiencies affecting courts and considered facilities required for judges, court staff, lawyers, litigants and visitors. It also looked at developing modern court complexes and improving working conditions.
The report further addresses computerisation under the e-Courts initiative, citizen-focused services and measures to bridge the digital divide.
The Supreme Court said the blueprint is aimed at securing suitable government funding for court modernisation and creating a structured framework for improving judicial infrastructure.
The interim report was placed before CJI Surya Kant on August 31, marking the completion of the first major stage of the committee's work.
