In a swift development, the President of India has appointed Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma to take charge as Acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. The move comes a day before the retirement of Chief Justice Kalpathi Rajendran Shriram, scheduled for September 27.
The official notification, issued late Friday, made it clear:
"In exercise of powers under Article 223, Justice Sharma will perform the duties of Chief Justice."
Court insiders remarked that the transition was expected but still carried weight given the high bench’s busy docket.
With this order, Justice Sharma steps into the top chair at Jodhpur, effective immediately, ensuring no gap in leadership.
