In a notification issued on September 26, the Union Law Ministry confirmed that the President has appointed two senior advocates, Jiya Lal Bhardwaj and Romesh Verma, as judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
The short order, read aloud in court, stated:
"The President is pleased to appoint S/Shri Jiya Lal Bhardwaj and Romesh Verma, to be Judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court with effect from the date they assume charge."
With these appointments, the bench in Shimla is expected to receive some much-needed strength, as lawyers outside the courtroom whispered about pending matters awaiting faster disposal. The notification made it clear that the appointment takes effect immediately upon assumption of office.
And with that, the court closed the matter, recording the appointments as final.
