Himachal Pradesh High Court adjourns Parjeet Singh case; hearing deferred for eight weeks after counsel seeks time to prepare submissions.

The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Friday adjourned the hearing in Parjeet Singh and Another vs State of Himachal Pradesh and Another, allowing a request made by the petitioners’ counsel for more time. The bench comprising Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Virender Singh listed the matter for hearing after eight weeks.

Background

The case, registered as Cr.MMO No. 393 of 2024, involves petitioners Parjeet Singh and another individual who have approached the High Court challenging certain proceedings initiated by the State. Although the detailed allegations were not discussed during the brief hearing, the matter has reportedly been pending for some time, and the petitioners sought an adjournment to prepare further submissions.

When the case was called for hearing on September 26, 2025, advocate Hemant Sharma appeared on behalf of the petitioners, substituting for their main counsel, advocate Sunny Rawat. Representing the State of Himachal Pradesh, Additional Advocate General Tejasvi Sharma appeared with Additional A.G. H.S. Rawat and Deputy A.G.s Rohit Sharma and Ranjna Patial.

Court’s Observations

Justice Virender Singh, after hearing the parties briefly, noted that the counsel appearing in place of the main advocate had sought additional time. “In view of the request made by learned vice-counsel for the petitioner, list after eight weeks,” the bench observed, keeping the matter alive for a later date.

No submissions were made on the merits of the petition, and the State’s counsel did not oppose the adjournment. The bench made it clear that the case would be taken up for consideration after the specified period, possibly for substantive arguments at that stage.

Observers in court noted that the bench handled several similar procedural matters on the same day, including criminal miscellaneous petitions and appeals, with many being deferred for status reports or further replies.

Decision

With the adjournment granted, the petition by Parjeet Singh and another will now be listed after eight weeks before the appropriate bench. Until then, the matter stands deferred with no interim relief or direction issued.
