The Kerala High Court on Thursday heard a petition filed by actress Lakshmi R Menon and three others seeking to quash a criminal case registered in connection with an alleged abduction and assault of an IT professional in Kochi.
Justice C.S. Dias presided over the matter and, after a brief hearing, adjourned it to November 7. The bench noted that the prosecution required additional time to gather details regarding other individuals reportedly injured in the incident.
"The learned Public Prosecutor, on instructions, submits that a reading of the FIR shows there are other injured in the case," the Court observed, before granting the request for more time.
The case stems from an incident that allegedly took place at a popular pub named 'Velocity' in Kochi earlier this year. The complainant, an IT professional, claimed that a heated argument broke out between him and the actress’s group. Later, he alleged that Menon and her friends followed his car, intercepted him, and assaulted him after forcibly taking him inside their vehicle.
An FIR was registered at the Ernakulam Town North Police Station under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 - including those relating to kidnapping, wrongful restraint, assault, and criminal intimidation.
Earlier, the High Court had granted anticipatory bail to the actress and others after the complainant stated that the issue had been amicably settled. However, the prosecution has now pointed to the presence of additional victims, prompting the bench to keep the matter open.
The Court will reconsider the plea on November 7.
