Section 82: Police to take charge of unclaimed property

Police to take charge of unclaimed property.

(1)

The Police shall take temporary charge––

(a)

of all unclaimed property found by, or made over to them, and also

(b)

of all property found lying in any public street, if the owner or person in charge of such property on being directed to remove the same, refuses or omits to do so.

(2)

In any area for which a Commissioner has been appointed the property of which the Police have taken charge under sub-section (1) shall be handed over to the Commissioner.
