Advocates-On-Record: The Backbone of Justice - Insights from Justice Surya Kant at Felicitation Event

The Supreme Court Advocates-On-Record Association (SCAORA) recently hosted a felicitation event to honor newly enrolled Advocates-On-Record (AORs). The event saw the presence of esteemed Supreme Court Judges, including Justice Surya Kant, Justice JK Maheshwari, and Justice KV Viswanathan, who shared invaluable insights on the legal profession and the art of persuasive drafting.

Justice Surya Kant emphasized the indispensable role of Advocates-On-Record, describing them as the “lifeline of the justice delivery system.” He underlined the fact that AORs play a pivotal role in ensuring justice is delivered effectively and fairly.

One of the key takeaways from Justice Kant’s speech was the importance of persuasive drafting. He advised the newly appointed AORs that drafting is not merely about presenting facts but about structuring them in a way that holds the reader’s attention.

“The first paragraph of any draft should create curiosity, compelling the Judge to read further,” Justice Kant remarked.

He stressed that each point in a legal document should transition smoothly to the next, ensuring clarity and coherence.

Apart from Justice Surya Kant, other esteemed Judges also shared their thoughts and guidance for the new AORs:

  • Justice JK Maheshwari congratulated the newly appointed AORs and emphasized the significance of thorough case preparation. He advised them to present arguments convincingly to achieve favorable outcomes in court.
  • Justice KV Viswanathan extended his best wishes and encouraged AORs to see their appointment as a reminder of their professional responsibilities. He urged them to strive for excellence and take pride in their role within the legal system.

The event also saw the presence of key office bearers from SCAORA, including:

  • Mr. Vipin Nair, President, SCAORA
  • Mr. Amit Sharma, Vice President, SCAORA
  • Mr. Nikhil Jain, Honorary Secretary, SCAORA

These dignitaries extended their congratulations and reaffirmed their support for the new AORs in their professional journey.
