The Allahabad High Court on a recent hearing declined to pass an immediate order on a plea seeking a ban on the Hindi film Dhurandhar The Revenge in Uttar Pradesh, citing lack of supporting material.

Background of Case

The Public Interest Litigation (PIL), filed by NGO Kaya Mati through its president Saima Khan, challenges the film’s certification. It alleges the movie portrays the killing of Atiq Ahmad as a sovereign act by Indian intelligence, despite the matter being under trial.

A bench of Justice Alok Mathur and Justice Amitabh Kumar Rai noted that the allegations were not backed by evidence.

“The claims made in the petition are unsubstantiated at this stage,” the bench observed, indicating the need for verifiable material.

The Court granted the petitioner two weeks to file supplementary material supporting the claims.

No interim ban or direction was issued at this stage.
