The Allahabad High Court has directed its Registrar (Protocol) to examine CCTV footage and identify advocates who allegedly disrupted court proceedings by raising slogans in the corridor outside Court No. 66. Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal also indicated that contempt and disciplinary proceedings could follow against those identified.
The observations came on October 28, 2026, while the Court was hearing Devendra Kumar’s bail application. The hearing was adjourned after the applicant’s counsel sought time to place witness statements recorded during trial on the record.
During the proceedings, advocates began raising their voices in the corridor. Advocate Mannu Sharma informed the Court that they were protesting an incident in Court No. 49 concerning the dignity of an advocate.
Justice Deshwal expressed concern that the protest was interfering with judicial proceedings and affecting litigants seeking relief from the Court.
The order stated,
“Such incident amounts to interference in the Court proceedings as poor litigants come to the High Court for redressal of their grievance, and merely because some of the Advocates have problem with particular Court, they cannot be permitted to raise slogans, shout and disturb to other Courts' proceedings and use such words which is in the nature to intimidate the Court. This is wholly unjustified.”
The Court further observed,
“such conduct of some Advocates is absolutely contemptuous.”
The Registrar (Protocol) was directed to examine the CCTV footage outside Court No. 66, identify the advocates involved and submit a report by the next hearing. The Court said the matter could then be referred to the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh for disciplinary action and contempt proceedings.
The bail application was listed afresh for November 19, 2026.
