Amaravati, Sept 18 – The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday directed the local police to provide immediate protection to Realme Mobile Telecommunications so it can shift thousands of finished smartphones from a manufacturing unit in Tirupati. The order came after striking workers of Wingtech Mobile Communications allegedly blocked the company’s access to its own goods.
Background
Wingtech, a contract manufacturer for several mobile brands, has been in financial turmoil since July when tax officials froze its bank accounts over alleged GST dues of about ₹245 crore. The cash crunch triggered protests and a work stoppage at its sprawling facility near the Tirupati airport. Realme, which had already paid Wingtech for its production services, claimed that about 11,000 finished smartphones and accessories-worth over ₹30 crore-were stuck inside the leased space it occupies within the plant.
Senior advocate Vikram Pooserla, appearing for Realme, told the court that repeated pleas to local police went unanswered. “Our client is facing heavy losses every day this blockade continues,” he said, urging for “continuous, effective and meaningful” protection for employees and transport contractors.
Court’s Observations
Justice Dr. Venkata Jyothirmai Pratapa noted that the company had obtained prior approvals from revenue authorities to remove its stock. “Considering the submissions made, the concerned Station House Officer is directed to look into the representation made by the petitioners and attend their cause within a couple of days by taking appropriate steps,” the bench observed.

Government counsel A. Jayanthi, representing the Home Department, left it to the court’s discretion, saying the administration had no objection to lawful orders ensuring safety.
Decision
Allowing the writ petition, the High Court instructed the Renigunta Urban Police Station to deploy adequate personnel so that Realme can safely transport its goods “without any untoward incident.” The bench made it clear, however, that “the petitioners shall bear the expenditure” for the police protection. With this directive, the court disposed of the case and closed all pending petitions.
