Anjana Om Kashyap Settles ₹2 Crore Defamation Suit With Khan Sir and Five Others: Delhi High Court

Journalist Anjana Om Kashyap and TV Today Network have reached a settlement with educator Faisal Khan popularly known as Khan Sir, and five other defendants in their ₹2 crore defamation suit before the Delhi High Court.

Background

The dispute arose after a televised debate on the NEET examination system on May 29, 2026, in which Kashyap allegedly criticised the growing influence of online educators and the commercialisation of education. Following the broadcast, several defendants allegedly made derogatory remarks about the journalist and her reporting on social media.

Kashyap and TV Today Network subsequently approached the High Court seeking ₹2 crore in damages and removal of the allegedly defamatory content from online platforms.

Advocate Vrinda Bhandari, appearing for Kashyap, informed the Court that a settlement had been reached with Khan Sir, Babita Tyagi, Arvind Bhadauriya, Manish Yadav and operators of the X accounts SamKhasa and Abhimanyu1305. The settlement agreement is expected to be signed shortly and placed on record.

However, the dispute remains unresolved with the other defendants. Mediation with 4PM News has failed so far, while settlement discussions with educator Abhinay Sharma are still pending.

During the hearing, the Court observed that remarks made by a 4PM News journalist describing Kashyap's statements as a “fake news ki dukaan” went beyond ordinary reporting and reflected a personal opinion. It encouraged both sides to make another attempt at mediation.

Appreciating Senior Advocate Rajshekhar Rao, who was appointed mediator in July, Justice Gedela remarked:

"You have done something which was almost impossible. As I said on the first date, these things should not come to Court."

The Delhi High Court requested Kashyap and 4PM News to explore another round of mediation with the assistance of Rajshekhar Rao.

The matter was listed for further hearing on December 15, 2026.
