Delhi HC Asks Advocate to Approach Supreme Court Over ₹50 Crore Compensation Plea Against CJP Protests

The Delhi High Court has asked advocate Rakesh Kumar Saini to approach the Supreme Court with his plea seeking ₹50 crore in interim compensation over alleged disruptions caused by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests in the national capital. The court disposed of his public interest litigation (PIL) on October 28, 2026.

A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Nitin Wasudeo Sambre and Justice Sanjay Sharma heard the petition. Saini sought directions to the Central government and other authorities to initiate proceedings concerning the alleged disruption caused by the protests.

The petition claimed that the demonstrations affected traders, commuters, office-goers and schoolchildren through traffic congestion and interruptions to daily activities. It also sought a high-powered committee to assess compensation claims from affected citizens.

During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Bench that similar matters were already pending before the Supreme Court. Taking this into account, the High Court said it should avoid proceedings that could result in conflicting judicial orders.

The Bench observed,

"The judicial discipline warrants that, in such an eventuality, this court must stay its hands away from the proceedings and should not pass conflicting orders."

The court accordingly directed Saini to seek relief from the Supreme Court and disposed of the PIL. It did not decide the merits of the ₹50 crore compensation claim.
