The Delhi High Court has directed actor Amitabh Bachchan to appear personally at the next hearing if he wishes to continue pursuing his personality rights suit and the settlement with some defendants remains incomplete.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav passed the order on October 9, 2026, in Amitabh Bachchan v. Rajat Nagi & Ors. The Court granted time to complete the formalities of a settlement reportedly reached with some defendants.
Bachchan filed the suit seeking a permanent injunction to protect his personality rights. On November 25, 2022, the High Court granted him an ex parte interim injunction, providing temporary relief without hearing the other side at that stage.
During the proceedings, the parties explored an amicable resolution through mediation. However, the Court was informed that although a settlement had been reached with some defendants, it remained unsigned due to logistical issues on the plaintiff’s part.
Granting the plaintiff time to complete the formalities and place the settlement agreement on record, the Court listed the matter for November 16, 2026.
The Court ordered,
“In the event of non-settlement or incomplete settlement, if the plaintiff wishes to pursue the suit on any of the claims or issues, the plaintiff shall remain personally present on the next date of hearing,” enabling the Court to exercise its powers under the relevant procedural and evidentiary provisions.
The direction leaves Bachchan to complete the settlement formalities or appear personally if he wishes to pursue unresolved claims.
