Journalist Abhishek Upadhyay, known for reporting on alleged irregularities in Ram Temple donations, has approached the Supreme Court against an FIR filed against him in Ghaziabad. He has called the case fabricated and linked to his investigative work.
Background
The FIR was registered at Indirapuram police station on August 18, after a complainant alleged his motorcycle was hit by a Baleno car near Shipra Mall, and that the driver later abused and threatened him.
Upadhyay has denied any collision or altercation, saying he was returning from his daughter's school when a bike rider caused a commotion, and that he left without incident. His plea points to a mismatch between the bike number in the FIR and the vehicle it names.
He has also alleged that police pressured nearby shopkeepers over CCTV footage and that a police team visited his home at night while his family was present.
Upadhyay has asked the Court to quash the FIR, grant protection from arrest, direct preservation of CCTV evidence, and, alternatively, hand the probe to an independent agency such as the CBI. He has said he is willing to cooperate with any lawful investigation.
The matter is yet to be listed for hearing.
