In a significant development in the Indian judiciary, Justice Arindam Sinha and Justice Chandra Dhari Singh were officially sworn in as judges of the Allahabad High Court on Monday, April 7, 2025.
This oath-taking marks a new chapter in the professional journeys of both judges, who bring with them years of experience from various high courts across the country.
Justice Arindam Sinha began his tenure in the higher judiciary when he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Calcutta High Court on October 30, 2013. His judicial acumen and service led to his confirmation as a permanent judge on March 14, 2016.
He was later transferred to the Orissa High Court, where he took the oath of office on October 8, 2021. His tenure at the Orissa High Court was marked by a brief but important leadership role.
“Justice Arindam Sinha served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court from January 19 to March 25, 2025, until the appointment of the current Chief Justice Harish Tandon.”

Recognizing his service, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended his transfer to the Allahabad High Court on March 20, 2025. This recommendation was subsequently notified by the Central Government on March 28, 2025.
Justice Chandra Dhari Singh’s judicial career began with his appointment as an Additional Judge on September 22, 2017. He was confirmed and took oath as a Permanent Judge of the Allahabad High Court on September 6, 2019.
His journey took a turn when he was transferred to the Delhi High Court on October 11, 2021, where he continued to contribute to the judiciary.
In November 2024, the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by the Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, recommended the repatriation of Justice Singh to the Allahabad High Court.
“The recommendation for Justice Singh’s repatriation to the Allahabad High Court was approved by the Central Government on March 28, 2025.”
Following this approval, Justice Chandra Dhari Singh took oath as a judge of the Allahabad High Court on April 7, 2025, alongside Justice Arindam Sinha.
