The Madras High Court has issued notice on a defamation suit filed by IPS officer A Arun against YouTuber Shankar, popularly known as Savukku Shankar, over alleged defamatory content published on social media.
Arun has sought an injunction restraining Shankar from publishing or circulating allegedly defamatory material concerning him. He has also claimed damages of ₹1,00,05,000 for alleged reputational and professional harm.
The officer has further sought directions to YouTube and X Corp to remove the disputed content.
Justice K. Govindarajan Thilakavadi issued notice to Shankar, Google, YouTube and X Corp in the suit.
The proceedings follow earlier litigation between Arun and Shankar, including Shankar’s unsuccessful plea seeking a CBI probe against the IPS officer.
The High Court issued notice to the respondents on Arun’s suit seeking restraint against the alleged defamatory publications and monetary damages.
