The Delhi High Court on Monday (3 August) refused to grant bail to former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Naresh Balyan in a case registered under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Justice Manoj Jain passed the order. Balyan has remained in custody since December 4, 2024, after his arrest by the Delhi Police Crime Branch.
The prosecution alleges that Balyan had links with an organised crime syndicate allegedly headed by absconding gangster Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu.
The case relies, among other material, on an alleged audio conversation. Although a Delhi trial court recently discharged Balyan in a related extortion case, the High Court declined bail in the separate MCOCA proceedings.
The Court refused to interfere with Balyan's continued custody, effectively rejecting his bail plea. The detailed reasons are expected to form part of the order. As the bench observed, the bail request did not warrant acceptance at this stage.
