The Union Law Ministry on Thursday announced that Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew will assume charge as Acting Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court from September 6, 2025. His appointment follows the retirement of Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji on September 5.

The notification, issued under Article 223 of the Constitution, states that Justice Thangkhiew, the senior-most judge of the court, will perform the duties of Chief Justice until a regular appointment is made. The communication has been shared with state and central authorities to ensure a smooth transition.

With this move, the High Court will continue its work without disruption, marking the beginning of Justice Thangkhiew’s tenure as Acting Chief Justice.
