The Corridors of the Allahabad High Court are set to welcome two fresh faces. On Saturday, the Union Law Ministry issued a notification confirming the elevation of Advocates Amitabh Kumar Rai and Rajiv Lochan Shukla as a Judge.
The appointments were cleared under Article 217 of the Constitution, which deals with the selection of High Court Judges. The order was signed off by the President of India after the usual consultation process with the judiciary and the state government.
While the formal notification avoided rhetoric, senior officials in the Law Ministry stressed the importance of these appointments.
One officer remarked informally,
"The Allahabad High Court, being one of the busiest in the country, requires continuous strengthening of its Bench."
The notification makes it clear: Rai and Shukla will take charge as Judges from the date they assume office.
