Six Judicial Officers Take Oath as Judges of Allahabad High Court

On Friday, April 18, six judicial officers were officially sworn in as judges of the Allahabad High Court. The oath of office was administered by the Chief Justice of the High Court, Justice Arun Bhansali, during the ceremony.

The six judicial officers appointed as judges are:

  • Jitendra Kumar Sinha
  • Anil Kumar-X
  • Sandeep Jain
  • Avnish Saxena
  • Madan Pal Singh
  • Harvir Singh

These appointments came following a notification issued by the Central Government on April 16, which confirmed the elevation of the above-mentioned judicial officers.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the names of eight judicial officers for elevation to the Allahabad High Court. Out of these eight recommendations, the Central Government approved six appointments, while two names are yet to be cleared.

"The oath was administered to the newly sworn-in judges by Chief Justice Arun Bhansali."

Following this swearing-in ceremony, the total number of judges in the Allahabad High Court has now increased to 87 judges (excluding the Chief Justice). This is still below the sanctioned strength of 160 judges for the court.

"With these six judicial officers taking oath, the strength of judges at the Allahabad High Court has risen to 87, excluding the Chief Justice."

This development comes shortly after the recent transfer notifications of three judges by the Central Government. Justice Yashwant Verma, Justice Arindam Sinha, and Justice Chandra Dhari Singh had also taken oath as judges of the Allahabad High Court earlier this month.

These appointments are a step towards addressing the shortage of judges in the Allahabad High Court and are part of a broader effort to strengthen the judiciary and reduce the backlog of pending cases.
