The Supreme Court on September 21, 2026, issued notice on stand-up comedian Pranit More’s plea seeking the clubbing of FIRs registered against him in Maharashtra and Haryana in connection with the “₹370 biryani” controversy.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana heard the matter and sought responses from the Centre, Maharashtra and Haryana.
Background
The controversy arose from an interaction during More’s stand-up show in Gurugram. An audience member made remarks about spending ₹370 on biryani during a date and subsequently expecting sexual intimacy from the woman.
The exchange was recorded and later circulated online, drawing criticism over the remarks and More’s response during the interaction. The controversy subsequently led to criminal complaints and FIRs in Maharashtra and Haryana. More was also summoned by the National Commission for Women.
The present Supreme Court petition concerns the FIRs arising from the same episode and seeks their clubbing so that the proceedings are dealt with together. The case is not a determination of the allegations against More.
More’s counsel submitted that the FIRs arose from the same set of facts and circumstances and should therefore be clubbed. Counsel also told the Bench that More had apologised and was willing to face the legal proceedings.
“I have apologised before all the forums. I was just the host of the show. I understand the gravity of the situation, but the only thing I am seeking is that the Gurgaon FIR be clubbed with the Bombay FIR. I am ready to face the trial.”
Counsel further submitted that More had deleted the video after becoming aware of the seriousness of the controversy and claimed that it had been published by his public relations team without his approval.
After hearing the submissions, the Supreme Court issued notice to the concerned authorities, including the Centre and the governments of Maharashtra and Haryana, on More’s plea seeking clubbing of the FIRs.
The Court’s order at this stage is limited to seeking responses on the petition. No final decision was made on the request to club the proceedings.
