Supreme Court Judge Justice Abhay S Oka’s Mother, Vasanti Oka, Passes Away

Justice Oka, who is due to retire from the Supreme Court on May 24, 2025, will be spending his final working day at the court tomorrow, May 23, 2025. In light of this personal loss, Justice Oka is not holding court today.

The Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) issued a formal notice informing members of the legal community about the bereavement. As per the notice, the final viewing was held today in Thane, from 9 AM to 11 AM.

Justice Oka began his legal career at the Thane District Court, training under his father. His judicial career began when he was appointed as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court on August 29, 2003, and later became a permanent judge on November 12, 2005.

He was then appointed as Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court on May 10, 2019. Later, he was elevated to the Supreme Court on August 31, 2021.

"Justice Oka has had a long and respected journey in the Indian judiciary, beginning from the Thane District Court to the highest court of the country."

His career has been marked by consistent dedication and service, and his mother’s passing comes just before the conclusion of his judicial tenure.
