Waqf Amendment Act 2025 Comes Into Force from April 8, Centre Issues Notification

The Central Government has notified the implementation of the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, bringing it into effect from April 8, 2025. The Act was passed by Parliament and has received Presidential assent. Several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging its validity.

Waqf Amendment Act 2025 Comes Into Force from April 8, Centre Issues Notification

The Central Government has officially brought the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 into effect from today, April 8, 2025. A notification has been released by the Ministry of Minority Affairs declaring the commencement of the Act.

According to the notification issued under Section 1(2) of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, the date of April 8 has been designated as the day the Act comes into force.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 1 of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 (14 of 2025), the Central Government hereby appoints the 8th day of April, 2025 as the date on which the provisions of the said Act shall come into force."

This Act was passed by the Parliament on April 4, 2025, and received the assent of the President on April 5, 2025.

The legislation has drawn attention, as several petitions have already been filed in the Supreme Court questioning the constitutional validity of the Act.
