Section 33Oath of affirmation by Councillor.

The JAMMU AND KASHMIR MUNICIPAL CORPORATION ACT, 2000 (Act No. XXI of 2000)

(1) Every Councillor shall, before taking his seat, make and subscribe at a meeting of the Corporation an oath of affirmation according to the following form, namely :––

“I A.B.C. having been elected/nominated as Councillor of the Municipal Corporation of ............................................do swear in the name of God/solemnly affirm that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India 1[x x x x x] and that I will faithfully discharge the duty upon which I am about to enter”.

(2) If a person sits or votes as a Councillor before he has complied with the requirements of sub-section (1), he shall be liable in respect of each day on which he so sits or votes to a penalty of five hundred rupees to be recovered as an arrear of tax under this Act, and his vote will be considered invalid.
