(1) It shall be the duty of the Chairperson of a Municipality -
(a) to convene regular meetings of the Municipality
as provided in section 58;
(b) to preside unless prevented by reasonable cause,
at all meetings of the Municipality and subject to
the provisions of the rules for the time being in
force under clause (xiii) of sub-section (2) of
section 337, to regulate the conduct of business at
such meetings;
(c) watch over the financial and executive municipal
administration of the Municipality;
(d) to perform all the duties and exercise all the
powers specifically imposed or conferred upon
him under and in accordance with Act; and
(e) to perform such other executive functions as may
be prescribed.
(2) The Vice-Chairperson of a Municipality shall exercise
such of the powers and perform such of the duties of the
Chairperson as the Chairperson from time to time delegates to him.
It shall also be the duty of the Vice-Chairperson-
(a) in the absence of the Chairperson and unless
prevented by reasonable cause, to preside at the
meeting of the Municipality and when so
presiding to exercise the same authority as is vested in the Chairperson under clauses (a) and
(b) of sub- section (1); and
(b) during the absence of a Chairperson on leave,
to exercise the powers and perform the duties
of the Chairperson.
