Section 117: Lighting of public roads and public places
Lighting of public roads and public places.
- Notwithstanding anything contained in clause (b) of section 111, the Government may, by general or special order, direct any [Village Panchayat or Panchayat Union Council or District Panchayat] [Substituted for the words 'Village Panchayat or Panchayat Union Council' by Tamil Nadu Panchayats (Third Amendment) Act, 1999 (Tamil Nadu Act 29 of 1999).] to provide for the lighting of public roads and public places within its jurisdiction and it shall be the duty of the [Village Panchayat or Panchayat Union Council or District Panchayat] [Substituted for the words 'Village Panchayat or Panchayat Union Council' by Tamil Nadu Panchayats (Third Amendment) Act, 1999 (Tamil Nadu Act 29 of 1999).] to provide for such light:Provided that where such a direction is given, the Government shall make such provision for the cost of lighting as they may consider reasonable and the decision of the Government shall be final.Previous
