The Calcutta High Court has declined to give an urgent hearing to Bengal cricketer Abhishek Porel in a case involving allegations of rape on the promise of marriage.
Porel’s lawyer told Justice Saugata Bhattacharya that the police had filed the chargesheet and seized his electronic devices. The lawyer sought an early hearing, citing the upcoming cricket selection process.
The Court noted the seriousness of the allegations and declined any special listing.
“File a bail application before this court and take steps in accordance with law.”
The Court further clarified that the matter would be heard according to the regular listing and would not be upgraded for an earlier hearing.
The Calcutta High Court refused to grant special accommodation for an urgent hearing and directed the petitioner to proceed with a bail application in accordance with law.
