The Delhi High Court has agreed to urgently hear a habeas corpus petition filed by Swatantra Bhardwaj challenging his arrest in connection with an alleged assault during a Jantar Mantar protest.

The plea was mentioned before a division bench headed by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya by advocate Umesh Sharma. The lawyer submitted that Bhardwaj had remained in custody for three days. The Court allowed the matter to be listed urgently for hearing today.

"Counsel submitted that the petitioner has been in custody for three days and sought urgent consideration of the habeas corpus plea."

Bhardwaj was arrested after the Delhi Police added provisions of the SC/ST Act and registered a separate POCSO case amid allegations arising from the protest.

The High Court has now agreed to hear his challenge to the arrest.
