Kolkata Law College Rape: Security Guard Arrested as Video Evidence Emerges, SIT Probe Underway

A shocking case of alleged rape inside a Kolkata law college has led to the arrest of a fourth suspect—a security guard. The incident, involving a 24-year-old law student, has sparked outrage and a high-level investigation.

Police found a video of the crime on the phone of one of the accused, which could serve as crucial evidence. The victim alleged that the accused recorded the assault and later used it to intimidate her. Authorities are verifying whether the video was shared or circulated.

The victim, a former women’s wing secretary of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) in the college, was allegedly attacked on June 26. She had stayed back to complete exam-related paperwork when the main accused, Monojit Mishra (31), a contractual staffer and former TMCP leader, proposed marriage. When she refused, he allegedly assaulted her.

Two students, Zaib Ahmed (19) and Pramit Mukherjee (20), reportedly locked the college gates and forced her into a guard’s room. The security guard, Pinaki Banerjee, was allegedly asked to leave before the assault. CCTV footage shows him loitering outside without intervening.

The security guard was arrested after discrepancies were found in his statement. The victim claimed he vacated the room before the rape. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from June 25 to establish a timeline.

The victim underwent a medico-legal examination and recorded her statement in court. She was later taken back to the college to reconstruct the crime scene. Meanwhile, the three main accused will undergo medical tests to check for injury marks from the alleged scuffle.
