The Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur issued a stern warning to an advocate for using disrespectful words during proceedings in a criminal case. Justice Pramod Kumar Agrawal, while hearing MCRC No. 16814 of 2025, emphasized that such conduct will not be tolerated in the courtroom.
During the hearing of Munnalal Mehra and Others vs. State of Madhya Pradesh, the lawyer representing the applicants reportedly used indecent language directed at the Court. Realising the gravity of his words, he immediately tendered an unconditional apology. Accepting the apology, the Bench refrained from taking strict action but cautioned him against repeating such behaviour.

This case highlights two important aspects of courtroom practice. Firstly, it underlines the judiciary’s intolerance towards any form of disrespect inside the court. Secondly, it shows the Court’s insistence on precise medical records in criminal proceedings, especially where the health of an injured victim plays a crucial role in determining the gravity of offences.
By issuing both a warning to the advocate and a direction to the State, the High Court ensured that dignity of proceedings is maintained while simultaneously focusing on the factual details essential for justice.
