Madras High Court Imposes Interim Stay on NEET UG 2025 Results Over Re-Examination Plea

The Madras High Court has temporarily stopped the results of the NEET UG 2025 exam. This order was given by Justice V. Lakshminarayan on Friday. The decision came after a group of students asked the court to hold a re-exam because their exam was disturbed.

The students must be given a chance to tell their side, the court said while passing the order.

The students had taken the NEET exam in May 2025 at the PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya CRPF in Avadi, Chennai. They told the court that their exam was affected by heavy rain and poor arrangements at the center.

The students said they reached the exam center by 11:00 am, as instructed, and the exam began at 2:00 pm. But around 2:45 pm, a strong storm hit the area, and there was a power cut. There were no backup lights like generators or inverters. Students had to continue writing the exam in very poor light.

When rainwater started coming into the hall, students were moved to another room in the middle of the exam, the students told the court.

They said the sudden change of rooms and the bad environment made it hard to concentrate. Even after facing all this trouble, they were not given any extra time. Many of them could not finish the exam properly.

"The environment was distracting and uncomfortable, and we could not perform well," the students said.

They also pointed out that students in other centers did not face such problems and had an unfair advantage. The affected students had sent an email to the National Testing Agency (NTA) asking for a re-exam. But they said they did not get any reply.

Since they did not hear back, the students went to the court and asked for a direction to hold a re-exam for all those affected at that center.

The case is titled S. Sai Priya and others v. Union of India and is listed as W.P. No. 18359 of 2025.

After hearing the matter, the court ordered a temporary stop to the NEET UG 2025 results.

There should be no result declaration until this matter is looked into properly, the judge said.

The court will now look at the issue more closely and decide whether a re-exam should be given and whether the exam officials were at fault.
