Committee Formation and Background
The formation of this committee follows a Supreme Court order dated February 25, 2025, in the case of Supreme Court Bar Association v. BD Kaushik. A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice NK Singh appointed Justice Nageswara Rao as the Chairperson to propose necessary reforms in SCBA election provisions.
Justice Rao has been granted the liberty to select the members of the committee. These members will include senior advocates and experienced practitioners from both the Advocates-on-Record and Non-Advocates-on-Record categories. However, a critical criterion for committee membership is that they must have never contested SCBA elections as office bearers.
