The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has submitted a request to the Supreme Court, urging for the live streaming of hearings related to the petitions challenging the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025.
In a letter sent to Registrar (Technology) H.S. Jaggi, SCBA Honorary Secretary Vikrant Yadav highlighted the situation during the previous hearing held on April 16. He stated that the courtroom was extremely overcrowded, leaving no space to sit or even stand.
“Many members experienced suffocation and felt claustrophobic,” wrote Vikrant Yadav in his letter.
“Two advocates fainted inside the courtroom due to the overcrowded conditions,” he added.
The matter is being heard by a bench consisting of Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar, and Justice K.V. Viswanathan. The hearing is scheduled to continue today at 2 PM.
The SCBA emphasized the need for live streaming to ensure wider access and to address health and safety concerns arising from such large gatherings inside the courtroom.
