The Supreme Court on Tuesday (4 Aug...) agreed to list a petition filed by six NEET UG 2026 candidates who alleged that the answers shown in the OMR sheets uploaded by the National Testing Agency (NTA) do not match the responses they had originally marked during the examination. The students sought an urgent hearing, arguing that the ongoing NEET counselling process could affect their admission prospects.
The petitioners claimed they scored above 600 marks and discovered the alleged mismatch only after the examination results were declared. According to their counsel, they repeatedly emailed the NTA and even visited its office seeking clarification but did not receive any effective response.
The counsel submitted that although the NTA had provided a window for candidates to raise objections regarding OMR sheets, the discrepancy surfaced only after the results were published.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohan sought brief clarification on the urgency of the matter and whether the candidates had approached the authorities.
During the hearing, the petitioners' counsel stated,
"We have sent a number of emails. We even visited the NTA office."
Responding to the request for an early hearing, the Bench observed,
"We will list it."
Taking note of the submissions, the Supreme Court agreed to list the writ petition for hearing. The Court did not express any opinion on the merits of the allegations and confined its order to scheduling the matter for consideration.
