On 28 July 2025, the Supreme Court of India issued a formal notice in the Special Leave Petitions (SLPs) filed by the Union of India and others against Jarmej Singh and another, concerning a final judgment passed by the Punjab & Haryana High Court on 17 December 2024 in CWP No. 33578/2024.
The court considered three SLPs together:
- Diary No. 34197/2025
- Diary No. 36809/2025
- Diary No. 36222/2025
These petitions sought condonation of delay in filing, and applications under:
- IA No. 168505/2025
- IA No. 170326/2025
- IA No. 173191/2025
“Issue notice on the application(s) for condonation of delay as well as the Special Leave Petitions.”
The court has not made any substantive ruling on the merits of the case but has chosen to entertain the delay condonation pleas for further hearing.
The Supreme Court directed that these matters be heard together with previously pending Civil Appeal No. 6820-24/2018, along with SLPs Diary No. 36809/2025 and 36222/2025.
“Post along with Special Leave Petition (C) @ Diary No(s). 36809/ and Special Leave Petition (C) @ Diary No(s). 36222/2025.”
To streamline the process, the court appointed Major Priyank to help with organizing the documents. He has been instructed to:
“Prepare a complete list of all the connected matters and hand it over to the Court Masters on 30.07.2025.”
The matter was heard by a two-judge bench comprising:
- Justice Pamidighantam Sri Narasimha
- Justice Atul S. Chandurkar
The Union of India was represented by a high-powered legal team led by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, alongside other advocates including Mrs. Ruchi Kohli, Mr. Mukesh Kumar Maroria, and others.
The respondents (Jarmej Singh & Anr.) were not represented during this particular listing.
The case is now scheduled to proceed alongside the previously filed connected matters. The registry and Court Masters will consolidate the list, following which the matter will be taken up in a combined hearing.
