In a significant step towards aiding the violence-affected people of Manipur, Supreme Court Judge Justice BR Gavai emphasized the urgent need to uplift and provide legal support to internally displaced persons (IDPs). Addressing the nation virtually during the inauguration of Free Legal Services Camps, Free Medical Camps, and Four Legal Aid Clinics in Churachandpur, Manipur, he called upon citizens to contribute to restoring peace and harmony in the state.
Justice Gavai, who is also the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), underscored the importance of providing socio-legal support to Manipur as part of India's constitutional duty.
"A just society is built on principles like accessibility to justice, healthcare, and opportunities that empower individuals. Internally displaced persons, who are among the most vulnerable, face significant challenges in rebuilding their lives. It is our moral and constitutional duty to ensure that they are not left behind in this process." – Justice BR Gavai
He stressed that the Indian Constitution guarantees access to justice in a speedy and affordable manner, and NALSA's mission is to ensure that even those in remote areas receive legal aid.
