CBI Concludes Investigation in Sushant Singh Rajput Death Case, No Evidence of Foul Play

After an extensive investigation lasting over four years, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially filed a 'closure report' in the high-profile Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The agency has ruled out any evidence suggesting foul play in the actor’s demise.

According to a PTI report, the CBI submitted its closure report before a special court in Mumbai on Saturday. Now, the court will decide whether to accept the report or call for further investigation.

Reacting to this development, senior advocate Satish Maneshinde, who represents Rhea Chakraborty, criticized the false narratives that had been propagated on social and electronic media regarding his client.

"The CBI has filed a closure report in connection with the death of Sushant Singh Rajput after almost four and a half years. We are grateful to the CBI for having thoroughly investigated every aspect of the case from all angles and closing it. The false narrative on social media and electronic media was completely uncalled for. Innocent people were hounded and publicly paraded. I hope such incidents do not repeat in any case in the future."

Further, he urged media professionals to reflect on their role in sensationalizing the case.

"Rhea had to undergo untold miseries and was imprisoned for 27 days for no fault of hers until Justice Sarang Kotwal of the Bombay High Court granted her bail. Today, I can proudly say that I defended a Fauji family pro bono. This country is still safe, and every citizen seeking justice can have faith in our vibrant judiciary."

He concluded his statement with the powerful words:

"Satya Meva Jayate!"

The Case Timeline

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai residence in the upscale Bandra area on June 14, 2020. The Mumbai Police initially investigated the case and concluded it was a suicide, as there were no signs of forced entry into his house. The preliminary investigation also pointed to 'depression' as a possible factor contributing to the actor’s death. Additionally, no suicide note was found at the scene.

However, the case took a turn when Sushant’s father, KK Singh, filed an FIR with the Patna Police, accusing Rhea Chakraborty and others of abetting his son's suicide. He also leveled allegations of cheating, theft, and wrongful confinement against her.

In response, Rhea Chakraborty lodged a counter FIR against Sushant's sisters, alleging that they had forged a prescription for scheduled drugs. With conflicting investigations by Patna and Mumbai Police, the Supreme Court intervened and, on August 19, 2020, ordered the CBI to conduct a thorough probe into both cases.

Now, as per the latest PTI report, the CBI has officially filed its closure report, concluding that there is no evidence of foul play in either of the cases.
