Delhi High Court Seeks AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan's Response on Plea for Cancellation of Anticipatory Bail

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan in response to a plea filed by the prosecution seeking the cancellation of his anticipatory bail. The case is linked to an alleged attack on a Delhi Police team at Jamia Nagar.

Justice Ravinder Dudeja of the Delhi High Court, while hearing the plea, directed Khan to submit his response. The court has scheduled the next hearing on August 27, providing Khan an opportunity to present his side.

The legal issue dates back to February when the Rouse Avenue Courts granted anticipatory bail to Amanatullah Khan. As part of the bail conditions, Khan was instructed to cooperate with the investigation conducted by the police. Despite this, the prosecution has now approached the High Court, seeking to revoke this bail.

The case revolves around an incident that took place on February 10, where the Delhi Police Crime Branch attempted to arrest a person identified as Shabaz Khan, who is accused in an attempt-to-murder case. According to the Delhi Police, Amanatullah Khan is alleged to have led a mob during the incident, aiding Shabaz Khan, a proclaimed offender, in escaping from police custody.

Following the incident, the Delhi Police registered an FIR against Amanatullah Khan, accusing him of obstructing law enforcement efforts. Subsequently, the Rouse Avenue Courts granted him interim protection from arrest, with a specific condition that he must join the investigation by February 13.

As the prosecution seeks to cancel Khan’s anticipatory bail, the High Court’s notice and the scheduled hearing will play a critical role in determining the next course of action in the case.
