Advocate Mr. Umar, the petitioner, brought to the court’s attention the alarming situation where unsafe meat and poultry products are being openly sold, posing severe health risks to the public. He referred to a recent newspaper column titled “Meet the Meat Mafia”, which exposed a hidden cartel supplying meat unfit even for animal consumption.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Arun Palli and Justice Rajnesh Oswal expressed concern over the gross negligence of the authorities. Despite repeated government advisories, the enforcement of food safety and municipal laws remains lax, endangering public health.
