A bench comprising Justices K. Vinod Chandran and N.V. Anjaria briefly heard the matter on July 14, 2025, and fixed the next hearing date for further deliberation.

One of the main petitions in this case has been filed by advocate Tanvi Dubey, representing concerned NEET-PG candidates. The plea raises serious concerns about the opaque evaluation system used by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) — the body responsible for conducting NEET-PG.

“The current evaluation system lacks transparency, affecting the credibility of the exam and violating candidates' rights,” the petition stated.

  • Release of question papers and answer keys to candidates
  • Disclosure of correct and incorrect questions as assessed by the board
  • Provision for rechecking or revaluation in case of scoring errors
  • An opportunity for candidates to challenge disputed answers or questions
  • Establishment of a transparent and accountable evaluation system for both present and future NEET-PG exams

The petition argues that such measures are crucial to maintaining the integrity of a high-stakes examination that determines the future of thousands of aspiring doctors in India.

“A transparent mechanism is essential to ensure fairness and trust in the medical education system,” the plea emphasized.

The Supreme Court will now review these concerns in detail on August 3 and is expected to address whether the current system aligns with principles of fairness and accountability.
