Chandigarh witnessed an unusually tense night inside its legal circles after the Punjab & Haryana Bar Council suspended two advocates accused of attacking senior Bar members. The move came barely hours after the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association (PHHCBA) alleged that one of them was even spotted roaming the court complex with a sword.
Late on Wednesday, around 11 p.m., the Bar Council's disciplinary committee convened an emergency meeting and decided to suspend the licenses of advocates Ravneet Kaur and Simranjit Singh Blassi.
The bench observed,
"Their conduct amounts to grave misconduct and a direct affront to the dignity of the legal profession," the order read.
The committee added that the duo's behaviour targeted the Bar Association’s President, Vice President, and Secretary, calling it a clear breach of ethical duties.

Kaur had earlier approached Chief Justice Sheel Nagu's bench, alleging that her laptop was taken by the PHHCBA Secretary, but the court had refused to intervene urgently. Tensions escalated soon after, as the association claimed that Kaur and Blassi stormed its office and physically assaulted members.
"Blassi was seen brandishing a sword in the court premises, creating fear among advocates," the PHHCBA's notice alleged, adding that police later removed them from the campus.

Following the uproar, Chandigarh Police registered an FIR against both advocates. Meanwhile, the Bar Council has restrained them from practicing in any court or appearing before any authority until further orders.
The PHHCBA has called an emergency meeting today to decide whether to continue its strike against what it terms 'police inaction.' The Council has summoned both lawyers on Friday for a formal hearing.
