K.N. Anand Kumar, the Founder and Managing Trustee of the National NGO's Confederation, who is currently in judicial custody in connection with the CSR Scam case, has approached the Kerala High Court seeking bail.
The allegations against Anand Kumar suggest that he persuaded multiple voluntary organizations and local representatives to secure funds under the pretense of procuring two-wheelers, laptops, and sewing machines at half price. It is alleged that he collected booking amounts from individuals, convincing them that the scheme was backed by CSR contributions from various companies. Ananthu Krishnan, the Secretary of the National NGO's Confederation and sole proprietor of Professional Services Innovation, has been named as the first accused in the case.

In his bail plea, Anand Kumar, aged 70, stated that he was arrested on March 11 and has since been in judicial custody at a hospital due to severe cardiac issues. He submitted that he has undergone angioplasty and suffers from multiple age-related health conditions, making his continued detention detrimental to his well-being.
"Justice P.V. Kunhikrishnan has sought instructions regarding the case and has scheduled the bail hearing for the following week."
The allegations further detail that Anand Kumar collected Rs. 60,000 each from 1,222 individuals for two-wheelers, Rs. 30,000 each from 52 individuals for laptops, and over Rs. 11 lakh from 127 individuals for sewing machines at discounted prices. However, he allegedly failed to deliver the promised goods or refund the money to the beneficiaries.

A criminal case has been registered against Anand Kumar, naming him as the second accused under Sections 316(2), 318(4), 61(2), and 3(5) of the BNS at Kannur Town Police Station.
In his defense, Anand Kumar stated in his bail application that he was compelled to assume the position of Chairman of the National NGO's Confederation solely to oversee its functioning and had no role in the alleged CSR fraud. He further asserted that he had no direct connection to any fraudulent activities mentioned in the case.
"I have dedicated my life to charitable work as the Chairman of Satya Sai Orphanage Trust. My absence from the Trust would severely impact its daily operations and charitable activities."
Additionally, he informed the court that his anticipatory bail application was previously rejected by the Sessions Court, Thiruvananthapuram, on March 11.
