In a tense courtroom exchange on Wednesday, the Delhi High Court refused to grant Bollywood actor Rajpal Naurang Yadav any more time to surrender in a series of cheque dishonour cases. The court made it clear that the window for leniency had closed, directing the actor to report to jail authorities by 4 PM the same day.

The matter was heard by Delhi High Court, where Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma firmly rejected Yadav’s plea seeking an extension.

Background of the Case

The cases stem from multiple cheque bounce complaints filed by Murli Projects Pvt. Ltd.. Rajpal Yadav and his wife were convicted by a magistrate court in April 2018. That conviction was later upheld by a sessions court in 2019.

Over the years, the actor approached the High Court seeking relief, citing settlements and promising staggered payments. The total liability ran into several crores, with Yadav repeatedly giving undertakings to clear the dues.

However, the court record shows that these promises remained largely unfulfilled.

What Happened in Court Today

Appearing for Yadav, his counsel requested one more week’s time, submitting that ₹50 lakh had been arranged and payment was imminent.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma was unconvinced.

“I rejected these submissions on that day itself and granted you two more days to surrender. I don’t think there is any ground,” the judge remarked in open court. She reminded the defence that the earlier extension was granted only because Yadav was in Mumbai at the time.

“Today, you have to surrender at 4 PM,” she added, drawing a clear line.

Court’s Observations on Conduct

The judge referred to earlier orders where the court had taken a serious view of Yadav’s conduct. On February 2, the High Court had already come down heavily on the actor for repeatedly breaching his own undertakings.

The bench noted that despite “several opportunities and considerable leniency,” Yadav failed to honour the payment commitments made to the complainant company.

In strong words, the court observed that his conduct “deserves to be deprecated,” pointing out that such breaches had occurred numerous times over the years.

Financial Details Noted by the Court

The court also took note of the payment history placed on record. In October 2025, demand drafts worth ₹75 lakh were deposited with the Registrar General of the High Court. Even then, a substantial amount-reported to be several crores-remained unpaid.

The High Court had earlier directed that the sums already deposited be released in favour of the complainant, underlining that the criminal process could not be stalled endlessly on assurances alone.

The Decision

After hearing the submissions, the Delhi High Court dismissed Rajpal Yadav’s application for extension of time to surrender. The court categorically ordered that the actor must surrender before the concerned Jail Superintendent by 4 PM on Wednesday.

With this, the court brought the long-running dispute to a procedural close, at least for the moment, by enforcing its surrender direction without further delay.
