Delhi High Court Seeks Response on Plea Against BJP Leader Parvesh Verma’s Election Victory

A petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court challenging the election victory of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader and Deputy Chief Minister Parvesh Verma from the New Delhi constituency in the recent Assembly polls.

Justice Jasmeet Singh has issued a notice regarding the election petition filed by Vishvanath Agarwal. The matter has been scheduled for a hearing on May 27.

The Court has directed the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Returning Officer, Verma, and 23 other candidates who contested the election—including Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal—to submit their responses.

Verma secured a total of 30,088 votes, defeating Arvind Kejriwal with a margin of 4,089 votes in the New Delhi constituency.

The petitioner is seeking to declare Verma’s election null and void. Additionally, he has requested the court to direct the ECI to conduct a fresh election for the constituency.

According to the petition, the petitioner was present with all required documents but was allegedly not allowed to file his nomination before 3 PM. He claims that this action prevented him from participating in the election process.

“Issue notice… Let replies be filed,” the Court stated.

The Delhi Assembly elections took place on February 5, and the results were announced on February 8.
