In a recent development in the Indian judiciary, the Supreme Court Collegium has officially recommended the transfer of Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari from the Madhya Pradesh High Court to the Kerala High Court.
This recommendation was put forward after a series of meetings conducted by the Collegium. These meetings were held on three separate dates—20th March 2025, 24th March 2025, and 3rd April 2025.
“The Supreme Court Collegium, after careful consideration and deliberation, recommends the transfer of Mr. Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari from Madhya Pradesh High Court to Kerala High Court,” — noted in the official minutes of the Collegium meeting.
Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari, born on 8th July 1966 in Raipur, has had a long-standing and distinguished legal career. With 24 years of experience as an Advocate in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, he has significantly contributed to the legal system in the state.
He began his legal career in 1992, steadily building his reputation and expertise in various legal matters. His professional journey includes an important role as the Standing Counsel for the Union of India, a position he held from the year 2000 until 2015.
Justice Dharmadhikari was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on 7th April 2016. Later, recognizing his capability and commitment to the legal profession, he was elevated as a Permanent Judge on 17th March 2018.
“The Collegium believes that such transfers are essential for maintaining the integrity and efficacy of the judicial system across different jurisdictions,” — as observed in its recommendation.
Transfers of judges between High Courts are a part of the routine administrative decisions taken by the Supreme Court Collegium. These decisions aim to promote transparency, balance the workload across High Courts, and ensure the effective functioning of the judiciary.
The transfer will take effect after the central government issues a formal notification, following the acceptance of the recommendation.
