The Kerala High Court has issued a notification inviting applications from eligible advocates seeking designation as Senior Advocates under the newly framed High Court of Kerala (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2026.
The notice, released by the office of the Registrar General on March 10, 2026, calls upon interested advocates to submit their applications in the prescribed format before the end of the month.

Background of the Notice
According to the official notice, the process has been initiated under Rule 8(1) of the High Court of Kerala (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2026. The rules lay down the eligibility conditions, application procedure, and evaluation criteria for conferring the prestigious designation of Senior Advocate.
The notification states that advocates who meet the eligibility requirements may apply using the format provided in Annexure-A appended to the rules. The annexure requires applicants to furnish detailed information regarding their professional career, reported judgments, academic work, and contributions to the legal profession.
Application Procedure
The High Court has specified both physical and digital submission requirements.
Applicants must submit one physical copy of the completed application to the Registrar General of the High Court. In addition, a searchable PDF version of the application must be emailed to the address specified in the notice.

The court clarified that if additional copies are required during the process, the registry will inform the applicant accordingly.
The notification clearly states that applications must reach the High Court on or before March 31, 2026, by 4:30 PM. Any application received after the deadline will not be considered.
Information Required From Applicants
The application format requires advocates to provide comprehensive professional details. These include:
- Date of enrolment and years of legal practice
- Courts where the applicant has practiced
- Number of reported judgments argued as lead or assisting counsel
- Details of five case synopses drafted by the applicant
- Pro bono or amicus curiae work undertaken
- Academic publications, teaching assignments, and guest lectures
- Field of specialization such as constitutional law, criminal law, arbitration, or human rights
Applicants must also disclose whether they have been involved in any litigation, faced disciplinary proceedings before the Bar Council, or been convicted by any court.

Eligibility and Professional Standards
Under the 2026 rules, the designation of Senior Advocate is intended for advocates who demonstrate exceptional ability, standing at the Bar, and specialized knowledge in law.
The rules emphasize that candidates should maintain high professional ethics, contribute to mentoring younger lawyers, and participate in pro bono legal work.
Court’s Decision
Through the notification, the Kerala High Court formally invited eligible advocates to submit applications for designation as Senior Advocates under the High Court of Kerala (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2026, with the deadline set for March 31, 2026, at 4:30 PM.
