In its official statement, the NBE clarified:
"The Hon'ble Supreme Court of India has ordered in W.P. No. 456/2025 (Aditi & Ors. Vs. National Board of Medical Examination & Ors.) that: 'We, accordingly, direct the respondents to make necessary arrangements for conducting the NEET-PG 2025 examination in a single shift, ensuring that complete transparency is maintained and safe centres are identified and made operational.'"
According to the NBE, the new date for the NEET-PG 2025 exam will be announced soon. The statement further mentioned:
"NEET-PG 2025 scheduled to be held on 15.06.2025 has been postponed to make arrangements for more examination centres and necessary infrastructure. The revised date for holding NEET-PG 2025 will be notified shortly."

The Supreme Court bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sanjay Kumar and NV Anjaria directed the NBE to ensure that the exam is conducted in a single shift. The court emphasised that conducting the exam in two shifts would create inequality among the candidates.
The court, in its order, said, "Conducting the exam in two shifts amounts to arbitrariness and does not keep all the candidates at the same level. No two question papers can ever be said to be of the same level of difficulty or simplicity. There should be variation."

The NBE had argued that there were not enough centres available to conduct the exam in a single shift. However, the Supreme Court rejected this argument, saying:
"The exam has to be conducted all over the country and not just in one city. We are not prepared to accept it all over the country and given the technological advancement in this country, the exam body could not get enough centres to conduct the exam in one shift."
The Supreme Court issued this direction while hearing petitions challenging the NBE's decision to conduct NEET-PG 2025 in two shifts.
