The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has approached the Supreme Court of India seeking urgent intervention after the cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 over alleged paper leak claims. The doctors’ body has termed the incident a “systemic failure” in the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and demanded sweeping reforms in the country’s medical entrance examination system.
The plea comes days after the National Testing Agency cancelled the May 3 examination following allegations that question papers had been leaked through encrypted messaging platforms.
Background of the Case
NEET-UG 2026 was conducted for undergraduate medical admissions across India and reportedly saw participation from more than 22 lakh aspirants. However, controversy erupted after reports claimed that “guess papers” circulating on WhatsApp and Telegram allegedly matched over 100 questions from the actual exam.
Following the allegations, the Union Government transferred the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is currently probing the matter.
FAIMA, through Advocate-on-Record Tanvi Dubey, has now sought judicial directions for restructuring the examination mechanism and ensuring greater transparency in future tests.
In its petition, FAIMA urged the apex court to replace or fundamentally restructure the NTA and create a “more technologically advanced and autonomous” body for conducting NEET examinations.
The association also requested the constitution of a high-powered monitoring committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge along with cybersecurity and forensic experts to supervise the re-conduct of NEET-UG 2026.
“The integrity of competitive examinations is under serious threat,” the plea stated while seeking stricter safeguards in the examination process.
The petition further proposed digital locking of question papers and a shift towards a Computer Based Test (CBT) model to reduce risks linked to physical transportation and handling of papers.
FAIMA has additionally sought directions to the CBI to file a status report before the Supreme Court within four weeks. The plea seeks details regarding the alleged leak network, arrests made, charges filed, and progress in the investigation.
The association also highlighted the uncertainty faced by lakhs of students and parents regarding the fresh examination schedule, admit cards, counselling timelines, and declaration of results.
The matter is expected to be listed before the Supreme Court in the coming days.
No order has been passed yet on the petition.
