In a significant move to strengthen the judiciary, On August 8 the President of India has appointed new judges to several High Courts. The appointments were made under Articles 217 and 224 of the Constitution of India, ensuring the smooth functioning of the judiciary. Here are the details of the appointments
Andhra Pradesh High Court
The President appointed four Additional Judges as permanent Judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The judges include Shri Justice Harinath Nunepally, Smt. Justice Kiranmayee Mandava (also known as Kiranmayee Kanaparthy), Smt. Justice Sumathi Jagadam, and Shri Justice Nyapathy Vijay. Their appointments take effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.
"The appointments are aimed at ensuring timely justice delivery and reducing the backlog of cases," a senior official stated.
Calcutta High Court
Two Additional Judges, Shri Justice Partha Sarathi Sen and Shri Justice Apurba Sinha Ray, were elevated as permanent Judges of the Calcutta High Court. Additionally, seven other Additional Judges - Justices Biswaroop Chowdhury, Prasenjit Biswas, Uday Kumar, Ajay Kumar Gupta, Supratim Bhattacharya, Partha Sarathi Chatterjee, and Md. Shabbar Rashidi—were appointed for a one-year term, effective from August 31, 2025.
Chhattisgarh High Court
Shri Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal, an Additional Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court, was appointed as a permanent Judge. His appointment is effective from the date he assumes charge of his office.
Delhi High Court
Shri Vimal Kumar Yadav, a Judicial Officer, was appointed as a Judge of the Delhi High Court. His appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge.
Karnataka High Court
Shri Justice Gurusiddaiah Basavaraja, an Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court, was elevated as a permanent Judge. His appointment is effective from the date he assumes charge.
