The Rajasthan High Court at Jaipur has put on hold the consumer proceedings initiated against actor Salman Khan in a case alleging misleading advertisement linked to a pan masala product. The order came during a hearing on a writ petition filed by the actor challenging earlier consumer forum directions.
Background of the Case
The dispute originated from a consumer complaint filed before the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC), Jaipur II. The complaint alleged that advertisements of “Rajshree Pan Masala” published in newspapers were misleading and harmful to public health. The petitioner was arrayed as a respondent on the basis that he was associated with the brand as a celebrity face.
Counsel for the petitioner submitted that the actor had only endorsed a “silver-coated elaichi” product of the company and had never promoted the pan masala product. The petitioner argued that the complaint was wrongly framed and lacked a factual basis.
Senior Advocate G.S. Bapna, appearing for the petitioner, argued that the consumer forum lacked jurisdiction to hear a complaint about an allegedly false or misleading advertisement. He stated that such matters fall under the domain of the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) and not the district forum.
He further told the court that an interim order had been passed by the DCDRC on January 6, 2026, but the petitioner had not been served with the order. According to him, despite this, contempt proceedings were initiated, and bailable warrants were issued, without confirming whether the order had been properly served.

The court was also informed that a related appeal is pending before the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC), under Diary No. 7520/NCDRC/2026-FA.
Justice Anuroop Singhi noted the submissions and issued notice to the respondents. The court recorded that counsel for the respondents had appeared and sought time to respond.
The court directed the petitioner to serve a copy of the writ petition to the respondents’ counsel within seven days. Respondents were granted four weeks to file their reply.

The matter has been listed for further hearing on May 12, 2026.
